I don't really Asscribed or Dogfight stories. I opened for an Asscribed reunion show at little St Marks once, but my set was pretty terrible. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big fan of everything Mike Morrison does, but only got to see Dogfight twice when they were a band.
Mark Black was the singer for Asscribed. Despite being probably around the same age, I always felt like I was younger than him. He just seemed to have more of a worldly knowledge of punk and scenes and stuff than I. In our somewhat limited interactions, I have always been struck by his poignancy and the way he makes you feel like he really WANTS to talk to you. That matters.
Mike Morrison was the singer for Dogfight. I was, and still am, a huge fan of his band Sunfish, as well as Rock Ranger and Mastodon Ridge. With Mike, though, my admiration goes beyond music. He was always willing to give up his time to play an all ages show. He was never expecting about money and was always grateful just to get to play. He gave great insight and advice. To this day, he still makes this starstruck kid feel welcome and appreciated. I never wanted to be more like anyone as I do Mike Morrison.
