The story of this compilation is pretty ambitious. Originally I wanted to release a four disc album of nearly every band I had ever booked on a show. It was inspired by the 'Oh! Canada' box set that came out in the late 90s.
As I contacted band, I found out that wasn't going to happen. Some didn't have tracks, some didn't want to be involved. Some just never replied. I narrowed it down to two cds, one local and one of traveling bands, with a total of 30 songs.
Violent Theory were kids at this point. They didn't have any of their good songs recorded, so we set up in my spare room using a Peavey PA head and the mic input on my computer and recorded it track for track. Not the ideal way to do things haha.
AnnaPilla originally wanted to put a different song on the compilation. I told them Longtime Manager was the song I wanted. We went back and forth and I got my way. I'd still fight that fight; this song is deadly.
By Envy Driven never actually played an Under the Underground show, and is the only band on the compilation not to do so. The members were in a band previously that I had done shows with and were great guys, so I put it on the comp. These guys are now in Alert the Medic.
I can't listen to the Embers and Ashes track (my first band) without slight embarrassment. We had better songs, and better recordings. I can't listen to the Undertone track without laughing. So many hilarious recollections of them going through the process of recording (and hiding) that demo.
The cd set was mastered by Matthew 'Art Damage' Claener and only 50 were ever printed. I did all of the printing myself, including the CDs.
